TB testing options at Advance Medical Lab

We offer two types of TB testing, depending on what your school, employer, or volunteer organization requires:

TB skin test (PPD)

The TB skin test, also called a PPD test or Mantoux test, is the most commonly requested option for school enrollment, volunteer applications, and many employer requirements. It requires two visits:

1. Visit 1 — the injection. A small amount of testing solution is injected just under the skin of your forearm. This takes just a few minutes.
2. Visit 2 — the reading. You'll need to return 48 to 72 hours later so our staff can check your arm and measure any reaction. This step is required — the test cannot be read from a photo or checked at home.

Plan for both visits when you come in, since the reading has to happen within that window to be valid.

TB blood test

We also offer a TB blood test, which some schools, employers, or programs accept as an alternative to the skin test. Unlike the PPD test, the blood test only requires a single visit — no return trip needed for a reading. Ask our front desk if your school or organization accepts the blood test option, since requirements vary.

Walk in — no appointment needed

You can walk in for either TB test during business hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, or Saturday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Self-pay pricing is available, and we accept most major Texas insurance plans as well.
